Convention

Here are several reasons why one might attend the Ontario Libertarian Party's convention on November 15 2025.

To influence party direction, elect officials, network with like-minded individuals, and learn about libertarian principles. For party members, the convention offers the chance to participate directly in the democratic processes that shape the party's future.

To influence party policy and constitutional changes

  • Propose changes: Attendees who are party members have the opportunity to submit and vote on motions to amend the party's bylaws and constitution. This is one of the most direct ways to guide the party's principles and goals.
  • Vote on leadership: Voting members can participate in electing key roles, including the party leader, deputy leader, and members of the Executive Committee.

To network and become more involved

  • Connect with others: The convention provides a space to connect with other Libertarians from across the province, sharing ideas and building relationships.
  • Meet candidates: You can meet and interact with the party's potential candidates for the Legislative Assembly.
  • Join a constituency association: Attending can be a starting point for getting involved at the local level with a constituency association.
  • Run for office: Those interested in running for a position within the party hierarchy can submit their intent and participate in the election process at the convention.

To learn and engage with libertarian philosophy

  • Explore party vision: You can learn more about the party's "Freedom of Choice" platform and its core principles, such as individual liberty, free markets, and limited government.
  • Attend sessions: Conventions often include speaker sessions and debates on various topics relevant to the libertarian movement. For example, the November 2024 convention featured a speaker on tax avoidance strategies.
  • Support the movement: Your attendance and membership signals support for the party's goal of modifying Ontario's political and social environment to increase individual freedom.

For party and candidate-focused reasons

  • Candidate training: The convention can involve sessions for training future candidates on public relations and other campaign-related skills.
  • Campaign strategy: You can gain insight into the party's overall campaign strategy and political activities.
  • Observe and learn: Even non-voting observers can attend to learn about the party's internal processes and activities, though they do not have voting privileges.

Ultimately, the convention is the central event for members to have a voice in the party's future, from its guiding principles to its elected leadership.
